Girl dates are my favourite kinds of dates. and today was extra special. there is nothing quite like waking up to a text from a friend you haven't seen in months, and then spending the afternoon drinking chocolate milk on the top floor of tate modern. i love heather. kxo

Bunting DIY.

I think this is my first official DIY. It's really easy and a perfect watching-t.v. kind of project. 
1st you'll need some fabrics, and cut them to roughly the same size (i used some left-overs from my broaches).I chose 3 main fabric colours and mixed in some different felts to give it a little bit of personality.Next, you'll need some string or yarn/wool and a needle with a big eye.You can stitch them onto the yarn however you like, but I wanted to make sure they stayed pretty flat and I could move them up and down the string easily. (Go through the front side only, then both, then just the back- so it sits nicely on the yarn). String them all how you want them and then...I highly recommend a helper cat at this stage to chase you around the room, or to pounce on your ends of yarn.Take some pictures, cause they sure look pretty [: and then hang.(sorry for the in-progress house photo. haha, it's a lot fuller now).I hung mine up by a window so they dance when there is wind and shine when the sun is out.I had some screen printed lions already on this fabric, but it would be super cute if you embroidered something onto a couple of squares.I hope you enjoyed this and if you make one, link me in the comments to some pictures- I want to see. One of my 'new house' goals is to keep it constantly decorated so my home feels like a party or festival all the time. [: hopefully i'll have a lot more fun DIYs to show you.

Workspace Wednesday no.13

These last couple of weeks, inbetween moving, i've been making a lot of little doilies for the back of my lion broaches...Some of you were asking for a tutorial on how I do it- I'd like to give you a better tutorial when I make up some more complicated designs, but this was one that was made without a pattern and it's really easy. If you've ever made a granny square or a flower- it's kind of a hybrid of that. Ack, this really isn't helpful- I'm sorry. I'm not that great with explaining knitting/crochet as I'm still a super beginner but I just made up the shape I was looking for out of simple stitches. I thought it was kind of cool to see it being built up.For the doilies, I normally do two levels of this and then add some 'petals' or 'scallops' around the edge.Hopefully I can show you a bit better in the future, haha, I feel lame even posting this but the pictures are nice, right? I've been doing some research on vintage signs/diagrams/scientific drawings and instructions. I'd really like to make a zine/book or some graphics like that. Maybe this can be a winter project for me...

my fridge is fixed! (1-25 of 101)

Yay! I bought a fridge off ebay for really cheap but the motor was broken (we knew that) and it's taken ages for the repair guy to come around with the right part. Today is the day that my fridge is FIXED and working and it's really really pretty- i can't wait to show you! (We still have boxes and paint cans and messy things all over the house haha!). Anyway, I'm super excited about this because now I can have people over and I can make them my super tasty shakes. Also- if anyone knows where I can buy some of these metal milkshake shakers, please link me up!You probably don't know this about me- but there are somethings that I can make really well. Like, I plan parties around them, cause they are that good. Anyway, I was inspired by Viv's post and i'm going to start a list here. (these photos were taken in a diner in March).

101 things about me:
1. I make the best milkshakes, pancakes, banoffee pie and cold coffee drinks.
2. I like to experiment with flavours when I make them.
3. I've been using Spotify for a few months and I love it (- the ads)
4. I'm obsessed about how things look.
5. I smile a lot in real life.
6. I am really good at reading public transport maps.
7. My iPhone has saved my life so many times. haha.
8. It hurts my feelings big time when people are flakey.
9. I'm not good at staying mad at people for very long.
10. I'm not good at small talk.
11. Sometimes I take a 20min bus(one way) just to get Starbucks.
12. I'm really scared that I'm not original.
13. I don't like things that are metal (mainly)- it creeps me out, don't ask why.
14. I don't wear jewelry (except my wooden ring/plug).
15. I stretched my ear when I was 16 and it bled so bad.
16. I constantly feel like a giant. (I'm 5'11+ tall and most of my friends are shorter/skinnier)
17. I went through a phase of always being over dressed, now I'm pretty casual.
18. I always think I have something stuck to my backside/feet or my hair is sticking up so I'm always checking, like an idiot.
19. When I get really tired, sometimes people think I'm drunk. haha.
20. I generally don't drink.
21. I dislike the taste of beer&most wines.
22. But I love Baileys, Rum and Gin&Tonic.
23. The heat sucks all my energy and makes me grumpy.
24. I love the cold but when it is, I will jump up and down and tell you all about it!
25. I've never been to the movies by myself, but I'm going to change that this summer.

aware.

I've been very aware of things these last few weeks. aware that i am not a normal 19 year old. aware that what i want out of life is special and beautiful and hard to achieve. aware that i have a lot to learn. aware that i can get ahead of myself and (thanks to a reminder from a friend) aware that i don't always take my own advice. aware of my limitations and how i mask my troubles with fun things to make it seem less bad. aware of my downfalls. aware that things change and that i can't control them. aware that i'm afraid of things. aware of my behaviour and of others. aware of my words. i am making a home for myself and it's challenging but rewarding. i constantly feel like the balance in my life is screwed up but the only way to correct this is to try another approach. here i am, trying to love more, and listen more, and keep promises more and to keep going.i am also enjoying the darling company of this little one. [: it has been a lot of quilts and afternoon naps and glasses of water around here. love you. kxo

One Life- SIGN UP!

In this class, we'll be playing around with both Film and Digital, and making our own rules for capturing your beautiful life the way you see it.

The nitty gritty details:
-Starts on the 16th of July and runs for 3 weeks (ending about Aug 6th).
-Cost: $40. Sign up here.
-It will be held on a private blog, and there will be new posts at least 5 times a week. You will have access for over a year after.
 
-We will cover 3 basic sections of taking pretty photos,
1. The cameras/film and what you can DO with them!
2. The 'Basics' that have changed my life, like camera settings, how to use ISO properly, flash (friend or foe!). AND shooting tips- how to capture your life the beautiful way it is (low lighting, locations, being sneeky etc).
3. Storing tips/my go-to photoshop techniques and my experiences with prints vs scans.
 
-In between advice (from the 6+ years I've been taking pictures everyday) I will be sharing experiences that will hopefully save you some heartache plus examples of what is a 'mistake' and what's a GOOD mistake. 
- 3 Chats with me, and an extra week after the class finishes to ASK ME ANYTHING you want to know.
-A group on Flickr to share your photos with me&your classmates.
-Some ideas to get you shooting.

This class would be great for you if:
-You don't feel like you have a good handle on your SLR for everyday shooting.
-You don't have enough pictures of your real life!
-You feel awkward taking your camera out and always regret not doing it.
-You've got a film camera(or want one!) but are too scared to use it.
-You like Lomography.
-You always think 'i wish i could do that' when you look at my photos.
-You want to HAVE FUN with photography!  

What you need:
-A keen eye and a camera (doesn't matter what kind, but here are the cameras I use.)
