So, you know me. I'm bad at actually updating my blog with things that I'm doing right this second. Like, I should be showing you scans of my journal from my holiday, or photos from then, or maybe even some new product photos... but- I've still got loads of other stuff to share too! Like guest posts (it's DIY week!) and of course, drawings from my 1st year of Illustration. [: (click the photos to see them larger)These are from my 'school days' sketchbook from the Lord Byron project. (See more here and here and here) I did a lot of drawings from old etchings/woodcuts/illustrations and super grainy black and white photos. It was rather a challenge, with the detail being so limited- but wonderful because I got to run a little wild with the watercolours.
Legend has it there was some thievery involved with his bed, and the photo I found was super ghostly & vignetted. I don't think I've ever drawn a canopy bed with such success (if i do say so myself).During this project, I also used a larger sketchbook than I usually do- A4 (I usually stick to A5 for reference drawings). So this was a change because I was literally sitting down with a photograph and trying to fill the whole page, while trying to consider how to best represent the stories attached to the places. It was fun & definitely something I'm going to do again. Some of the drawings in this book took half an hour, some of them took 4 hours. Getting buildings in proportion & accurate down to the number of windows and such is time consuming for me- but rewarding (even if they still are wonky and stuff).
Enough yacking for now. Love you, Kimxo
Very nice, Kim!
