Hi there *waves*
It’s really nice to meet you! My name is Rhiannon most people know me as Riz. I am twenty two years old and I love art journaling, painting, my Victorian flower doc martens and chocolate soy milk. I have lived all over the world but settled down in New Zealand 7 years ago and it’s magnificent here. I have a supportive partner of over 4 years and two mischievous cats that I absolutely adore. [You can meet Zeus and Spaz over on my blog]
I’m so glad to have the opportunity to write a guest post for Kim. I stumbled across this blog for about a year and a half and I couldn’t get over how awesome her typography and illustrations were. Kim had been blogging a lot about her college too and because I was in the middle of considering doing an art course, it was so great to follow someone else’s journey. I still love reading posts about what Kim gets up to with her course.
My blog Pierced Beauty is about sharing things that I enjoy and make me happy and will make others happy. That can be anything from reading a great book to buying new boots to dying my hair, making a new journal page, sharing artists I admire to all sorts of things.
What I have to share with you today, began when I did my first of a series blog posts called Friday Feature Artist. I interviewed a lovely woman called Natalie Malik from Awkward and Beautiful. During the interview she mentioned that she is launching her very own free online class called In The Sun{http://inthesuncourse.blogspot.com/}. I couldn’t wait to join in!
In The Sun is a free follow-along online art journaling course and is designed to keep you creating during warm summer days. Natty involves regular summer prompts and also shows new techniques to try in your journal. It’s all about staying imaginative and trying new things.
We are in winter in the southern hemisphere so I decided that instead of doing a journal on summer and pining for the warmth of the summer sun, I would adapt her prompts for winter. I wanted to be able to start looking at winter as a season to enjoy and appreciate instead of just repeating “I wish it was summer again”.When I started this online class, I made the decision to break out of my rut of doing the same things over and over and try new ways of creating journal pages. I have to keep reminding myself that there is no growth or knowledge without mistakes and accidents because it’s very easy to fall back into doing something that’s familiar. So far I have tried a page without any paint and have tried to keep some very simple; both of which are outside of my comfort zone. I usually have a lot of paint and the pages are quite busy. One of my favourite things about the course is that most people participating are uploading their pages to the flickr group {http://www.flickr.com/groups/1662303@N24/}. I love being able to see the different ways people interpret a prompt. I have already met a lot of new people and blogs just through joining this.Natty has put in a huge amount of work for this course and I think she has started something really fantastic. Every day I check the blog with anticipation to see what’s next; it’s so much fun to be able to come home from work and have a prompt all ready for you to dream up a journal page.
I hope you all enjoyed my guest post, come and say hi sometime!!
You can find me all over the web at my blog, Pinterest and flickr.
And a big thanks to Kim for the opportunity to guest post for her wonderful blog.
