I said to myself that I was taking the season off from markets. I didn't do Renegade or any of my usual things, but I've been missing it a little too much. I managed to swing a last minute spot at the Pom Pom Quarterly Christmas Market. It looks like it's going to be a grand party & I will be hanging out with the indie dyers and yarn makers. I can't wait!
All the details are on the flyer there, but here's the link to their blog post about it, where you can buy tickets and get excited! Maybe see you there, London friends. Kim xo
Hello! Sorry it's been so quiet, but I'm sure you can understand why! Had a brilliant show at Camberwell and now our year group (That's all my fellow BA Illustration students from Camberwell) have put on a show on Brick Lane!
We are going to be at THE RAG FACTORY (favourite place!) from tomorrow night 6pm for the private view and then everyday until Sunday 10-7pm. It would mean the world to me if you came and checked it out. We've all worked super super hard to bring you the best show we can, in a fun and exciting part of London (Brick Lane is crazy cool on the weekends with Vintage clothes markets, Vinyl shops, tasty food and the best curries in London. Oh and don't forget Spitalfields and Box Park just a few streets away).
Along with a few of the WS team, I'll be tweeting live with pictures and updates. @wellsaid2013#wellsaid2013 Don't forget to check out the WS blog for interviews with the artists. Hope to see you there!!! Kimxo
Hello! The lovely people at 'The Amazings' wrote to me about their great project & I've done a little review of their new Video classes.
Here's a little bit about the project:
The Amazings is an online platform where retired and retiring people pass on craft skills through classes and courses. There are now over 200 real life workshops on offer.
Demand for the classes has far outstripped what the individual Amazings can provide, so in order to widen the availability of the courses, they will now be available through a digital platform.
Online classes will be offered in everything from knitting and sewing, to bookbinding and retro-hair dos. They will consist of over 2 hours of video tutorials, commentary, teacher’s notes, and asking the teacher a question. Once enrolled, users will be able watch a class anywhere, anytime, and for as long as they like.
Okay, and here's what I think:
First of all, I've got to say that I found it really hard to come up with anything bad to say! Overall it's a very well structured, friendly and informative way to give classes. Great job, guys! I had a really in depth look at the Natural Beauty Products and the Retro Hair Dos classes (for something a little different!) but am very enticed by all the other ones too.
It's wonderfully friendly, like they are sat with you at your craft table. Sometimes video tutorials can feel forced or stiff, these were easy going and fun! Not too 'serious', lots of laughing and 'real'. You don't feel like you're missing out on anything, which I LOVE! It's like being in the front row. And as a bit of a geek when it comes to learning, I love that.
The set up of the video is more like a conversation between student and teacher. If I had any questions they were answered in the video. Very cool. Plus, you've got to love that Depth Of Field filming magic.
Included is written instructions and a description to look back on easily. Doing an online class in a video format is a brilliant idea, it's great for us anxiety-ridden people who want to get involved but are maybe a bit shy- or if you're someone that needs things repeated or explained again (you can just pause and rewind!), you can go at your own pace, and you can even wear your pyjamas while learning!
Below are a concise version of my notes from the two classes:
-Beauty products have always fascinated me. It's one of those mysteries- but not any more! Learning from a 'real person' that really knows what they are talking about has given me much more confidence. Thanks The Amazings!
-Retro Hair Dos! Something I've dabbled in before but never really known how to do it properly. So great to see it being done professionally and explained in a way that's easy to understand. Great step-by-step and fun looks to choose from. Wonder how it would work on different hair lengths... oh wait, he's now giving advice for super long hair! Thought of everything. Perfect.
And some photos of my go at doing my own 'Retro Hair Do'. Seriously fun! I can't wait to try out more of the classes. Here's a link that (I think) gets you your first online class free. Otherwise go to theAmazings.com to learn more and browse what they've got online. It's such a great idea, learning old skills from the people that know them best!
Saturday sees the opening of what I've been working towards for 4 years! It's the opening of my Final Degree Show. It's been a long journey filled with ups and down, and it has been an amazing experience sharing it with you. I don't want to give too much away in pictures untill the public has seen it tomorrow- so stay tuned for the full online reveal!
If you're in London and fancy coming to see, you can find all the info here.Along side all my classmates (BA Illustration), I will be exhibiting with several other degrees. It's always an exciting event, these summer shows. There will be lots to see!
My set-up includes a big big shop with all my products old and new! Here are the opening times: If you've been keeping up with me on Instagram, you'll have seen little peeks along the way...You can see all those process images tagged with #operationfinalshow I will be tweeting and instagramming live during this coming week too! Keep your eyes peeled.
A place to check as well... Our year group show is called:
This Saturday on the Regents Canal by the St Pancras Locks near Kings Cross we are doing our second Peoplespace market! It'll be on most of the day and we will be hanging out enjoying the weather (hopefully) and the nature and eachother's company. It's an event hosted by a few of my best friends and I. (Like those signs? I painted them!)
Last month we held our grand opening in Camden and it was a great success! The boat is equiped for selling off the side and for performances (musical and otherwise). Weather permitting, I will be spinning on top of the canal boat, and many our friends are talented with guitars and singing. It's going to be a perfectly chilled day.
*NOTE! We are still looking for stallholders/nice people who make things! Space is free and so are hugs and good conversation. We're looking to meet like minded folks who like to make things that are nice to the enviornment and to ourselves. Please email me or message the team on facebook.
To find us- Hop on the Regents Canal toe path near Kings Cross and take a lovely little jaunt along the canalside. Depending on available space we'll be somewhere near the locks. Look for a bunch of hippies and our big orange sign. I've got to say, the Canal is one of London's hidden gems. It's so peaceful and a much 'slower' way of living- and a perfect escape from busy busy London hubbub.
"We are aiming to gather momentum and collective inspiration for these changing times, towards living in a holistic and homeostatic relationship with our environment , with a focus on being less worried about money, more enthused about community, by coming together and thinking, listening and feeling, by planning and doing." Photos and Quote by the Peoplespace Team.
Well, it's been a couple of weeks since we've had a Tuesday Video! That's mainly because I'm in the final year of University and my schedule is wall to wall college work. Ah! It's kind of a crazy time over here. There's a lot of things coming your way soon! My hand in date is May the 31st, and our show is June the 15th so that gives you an idea of when new things will be showing up here.
In the meantime, here's a fun little video that I took during the Peoplespace market opening!
It's Sam and Rowan on top of the boat at Camden Lock Market. Enjoy!
Hey, this weekend I'll be at the lovely Horniman Museum for their Easter Fair. We had a great time with the Fayre Christmas Fayre & looking forward to meeting people & spreading the handmade/ethical love. Check here for more details. Maybe see you there?
It's tuesday, which means it's video day! I took a lot of dark, grainy footage from a birthday party on my friend's boat. They always play the best music when ever I'm visiting, and it's got such a cozy atmosphere. I edited the best shots together with a cute song Sam, Rowan and Josh improvised. I've got some more songs for a later date to share, but for now I wanted to share this special place with you. See it on Youtube. Like & Subscribe for more!P.S. if you've been a follower of this blog/ my flickr for a long time, you might recognise some these faces from my Bristol days. I still consider them some of my closest friends even if we live in different cities now. :]
-Kimxo p.p.s. Yaara took this photo of me, and it pretty much sums up how I feel when I'm on the boat. haha. Blissed out with friends and knitting. What could be better?
The lovely people at We Make London asked me to participate in one evening with the Camden Night Markets during December. The vibe was nice and Christmassy and got me in the mood for shopping big time. A lot of my friends came out that night too, which made bearing the cold much funner! :] Here are a few snaps I took of my stall that night. Mum was also there to help- here she is sporting one of our 100% British Wool, Handspun hats. Cozy!Kimxo
Last week we had a some snow in England. I love how everyone goes crazy over it. My instagram feed was full of white snowy landscapes and I spent most of the day sitting by the window, watching it fall. It felt like christmas, waking up every morning and peeking out the window to see if more had fallen.(These cool snowflake banners were made by a friend of mine. haha. it says 'Kim is Awesome, and Negs as well'. haha. love it!)So peaceful and quiet and lovely. Negs wasn't really that bothered, she just cuddled up next to me to keep warm. So cute. Love, Kimxo
