There are three things that are staples in the wardrobe right now: Flower Crowns (buy here!), Baseball tees (this one is vintage) and high waisted skirts. I especially LOVE this pinafore dress that I found on Simply Be (I know, not my usual kind of store but it's GREAT for plus size staples and bras and stuff. Yes!) that's actually designed by a youtuber, Sprinkle Of Glitter. Anyway I love it and it's super comfy and goes with everything. It's like my new favourite pair of jeans (I don't really wear jeans anymore, is that terrible?! haha). This outfit is a bit matchy-matchy but you guys know me, I love that! even the little red tabs on my Vans match my flower crown and my top. hehe. I'm such a nerd. My hair is just fading away here, but it's a little bit curly which always makes me feel fancy and good. Up in an Ariana Grande ponytail (which has been perfect for summer, omg this heat!) I kind of feel like a cheerleader. Where are my pompoms? I tell you what, I've been wearing flower crowns nearly everyday, it's such a life saver for me when I feel my hair is super messy and gross, I pop one on and boom, instant pretty hair. Pretty sure I'm wearing no makeup at all in these photos. I'm chill like that. Some days I wear a full face, some days nothing at all. All depends on how I'm feeling. It's been so long since I've done an outfit post, blimey! Feel like I'm still getting used to blogging again, so bare with me while I find my groove again. How have you all been? Are you looking forward to autumn? I can't wait! Kim xo p.s. little pin badge from my shop. empty #safetypin to try and discourage xenophobia.
Hi everyone. :] I've noticed that I really like 'getting dressed' to 'go to work'. What I mean is, when I come down stairs and open the door that leads from my house to the shop, I like to be dressed as if I was going to work in an office or studio where other people would be. Even if I'm just working in the shop all by myself all day, just doing accounts or editing photos. Somehow wearing real shoes and feeling 'photo ready' makes me motivated to get stuff done. Now, I definately don't do this everyday. In fact, due to my CFS, I often have to stay in comfy clothes all day. And some days I don't even make it downstairs except to feed the cat. I'm digressing... Basically these shoes make me feel like a bad ass business lady. And pink lipstick makes me feel grownup. Do you have a piece of clothing or a hairstyle or a type of beauty product that makes you feel super confident and like you want to make stuff happen?!
Everything is second hand except for my socks and leggings (ALL my leggings seem to have either paint on them or holes in them. Artist life!). Shirt is a hand me down from Dad. Skirt from Loot in Bristol, the Vest is handwoven but I found it in a vintage store (I think Repsycho in Bristol) and my shoes are actually from a friend's closet when they were having a clearout.
Can we just talk about height for a minute? I'm super tall. Like, nearly 6ft. And I'm not exactly a tiny person (or model-like). So I've always shyed away from heels of any kind. But in the last year or so I've been like 'Screw it!'... If I want to wear heels and they make me feel amazing, then I'm going to do it! So, I'm sorry friends if I stand next to you and seem like a giant while I wear my comfy comfy bright pink wedges. hehe. :] Love Kimxo
So here I am, working in the studio/shop getting stuff done. Or trying to at least. :] My hair is a little pink- I'm trying to grow all the bleached bits out so I can be 100% natural. My shirt is from this awesome vintage store in Bristol called "Loot". Thier store is right next to the bus station, so it's kind of perfect for me to pop in when I go into town. Plus, they are great at taking vintage items and making them more wearable for today's people. I like them. My boots, I found them at my other favourite Bristol Vintage store, Repsycho. The socks are my handknitted 'Story Socks', the cardigan is a 'hand me down' from Dad (pure wool! yes!). And Leggings. Always Leggings. I'm a fan of super comfy clothes that make me feel good. It might not be the most stylish things out there, but it works for me. (Although I'm a sucker for a nice pair of shoes. I never thought I was a shoe girl, but I kind of am... kind of. Maybe.) Do you put comfort over style? Have you ever dressed like a cowboy hippie?
Kimxo P.S. It's SO FUN to have a shop to photograph my outfit posts in. I'm having way too much fun here, guys! It's criminal!!!
Graduate life is interesting. Graduate life while being super sick is not so interesting. Simultaneously taking on more responsibilites (being no longer a student) and trying to reduce my stressful activities has been really difficult. One thing that was getting in my way, and had to change, was my hair. I have really thick hair. It gets easily tangled and is very hard to manage. I just couldn't keep it up as it was taking ALL my energy just to wash it and half the time I had to get someone to help me brush it out. Yes, it was beautiful. Yes, there were lots of fun things I could do with it. But, only about 10% of the time was it even in a decent enough state to attempt anything other than a side braid (and I don't really have the energy to 'style' it anyway). And it was pretty much always in a big crazy bun during the summer. It was more of a pain than anything, and not something that I wanted to hinder my recovery. So. It got the chop! My hairs are happy and way more healthy. And it's super super easy to style. Thank goodness. For those that don't know- I'm taking a year off of school and work to focus on my health. The aim is to say 'good-bye' to CFS/M.E. It's a big goal, but I went straight into university after my A-levels, and pushed myself way too hard at the beginning. My body has not had a chance to recover since 2008 when I first got sick.
I've gritted my teeth and taken too many pain killers and made everything else my top priority. Now it's time to change that. With any luck I will feel rested, revived and maybe even get back to my happy weight. It's going to be a very long, tedious and slow process. I know this. I know I might not get better- but my body needs this. I need this.
It's been quiet around here, I know. I've been finding it harder to keep up with my photo editing and social media activities in general. This is probably down to how much I over did it with my final show project and exhibitions. They were really really awesome and I have no regrets, but it is kind of sad how much of my health I've had to sacrifice for college. Silly, really.
So, I will be posting here when I can (aiming for once or twice a week starting now!) and updating the shop as I go. There are a ton of fun things I want to share with you, including Tour De Fleece! But I think we'll both just need to be a little patient.
I've got so much to give and so much I want to do. I feel like saying 'you haven't seen the last of me!' but that feels a little dramatic. Just because I can't keep up to the same speed doesn't mean anything has really changed. I'm still here. I'm still making. I'm still Kim. :] See you very soon, Kimxo p.s. I'm still doing daily updates on my instagram!!!
Hello! The lovely people at 'The Amazings' wrote to me about their great project & I've done a little review of their new Video classes.
Here's a little bit about the project:
The Amazings is an online platform where retired and retiring people pass on craft skills through classes and courses. There are now over 200 real life workshops on offer.
Demand for the classes has far outstripped what the individual Amazings can provide, so in order to widen the availability of the courses, they will now be available through a digital platform.
Online classes will be offered in everything from knitting and sewing, to bookbinding and retro-hair dos. They will consist of over 2 hours of video tutorials, commentary, teacher’s notes, and asking the teacher a question. Once enrolled, users will be able watch a class anywhere, anytime, and for as long as they like.
Okay, and here's what I think:
First of all, I've got to say that I found it really hard to come up with anything bad to say! Overall it's a very well structured, friendly and informative way to give classes. Great job, guys! I had a really in depth look at the Natural Beauty Products and the Retro Hair Dos classes (for something a little different!) but am very enticed by all the other ones too.
It's wonderfully friendly, like they are sat with you at your craft table. Sometimes video tutorials can feel forced or stiff, these were easy going and fun! Not too 'serious', lots of laughing and 'real'. You don't feel like you're missing out on anything, which I LOVE! It's like being in the front row. And as a bit of a geek when it comes to learning, I love that.
The set up of the video is more like a conversation between student and teacher. If I had any questions they were answered in the video. Very cool. Plus, you've got to love that Depth Of Field filming magic.
Included is written instructions and a description to look back on easily. Doing an online class in a video format is a brilliant idea, it's great for us anxiety-ridden people who want to get involved but are maybe a bit shy- or if you're someone that needs things repeated or explained again (you can just pause and rewind!), you can go at your own pace, and you can even wear your pyjamas while learning!
Below are a concise version of my notes from the two classes:
-Beauty products have always fascinated me. It's one of those mysteries- but not any more! Learning from a 'real person' that really knows what they are talking about has given me much more confidence. Thanks The Amazings!
-Retro Hair Dos! Something I've dabbled in before but never really known how to do it properly. So great to see it being done professionally and explained in a way that's easy to understand. Great step-by-step and fun looks to choose from. Wonder how it would work on different hair lengths... oh wait, he's now giving advice for super long hair! Thought of everything. Perfect.
And some photos of my go at doing my own 'Retro Hair Do'. Seriously fun! I can't wait to try out more of the classes. Here's a link that (I think) gets you your first online class free. Otherwise go to theAmazings.com to learn more and browse what they've got online. It's such a great idea, learning old skills from the people that know them best!
This hat is made with the same pattern as This One. The big difference is that's it's made with my Self Stripe Handspun. I gave mum 100g of it, and asked her if she'd make me up a sample so you could see the stripes when it's knitted up. Funny thing is, we were doing a market that weekend, and ALL my stock of it sold out! Haha. So now we have a beautiful hat with a discontinued yarn (it's not naturally dyed)- but good news is Mum wears this during the winter and always gets compliments, so that's good. :]
I really like it, it reminds me of a watercolour drawing. We added a little 'Art Equals Happy' pin badge (get one here!) onto the turned over bit of the hat. Love it!
This little hat was made up of some precious Handspun of mine. I had originally intended this yarn to be used in a jumper, but that project got scrapped. It was also pretty similar to some of the Self Stripe yarn that I made for the shop, that needed a sample. :] So we picked a favourite and much loved pattern and made up this little cutie.I really love how versitile it is, and how WARM. That's the thing with 100% wool. With all the imitations out there you can forget how wonderfully soft and warm a real wooly hat can be.
It's so amazing to be able to dream up a fibre, mix it up, spin it, and then knit it up. Every single time it's unique and different and super special. This one has really subtle stripes of ligher yellow and then some tweedy bits of red and mustard. Thanks for letting me share. :] Kimxo
These pretty new shoes are from ModCloth- my first ever purchase from there. I'm always a bit nervous buying clothes online, cause you're never quite sure if they are going to fit or not. But these are super super comfy and pretty much perfect. As you can probably tell, I'm loving deep reds at the moment. Maybe it's a bit of the christmas spirit hanging on, but I love it. I kind of feel like a Gryffindor, though, with all this red. :] I mean, that's cool but I'm definitely more of a Hufflepuff at heart. <3 I've been thinking about what I would call my 'style'. I used to be incredibly Mod, and be damned if you called me anything else- but I am MUCH more relaxed with my style now, and my love of old things has reached back as far as Medieval times recently. So, my style? Um... Maybe Dobby the House Elf meets Victorian Shop Assistant meets Femminist Hippie meets Medieval Dying Expert whose brother is a blacksmith? Is that too vague and fantasyesque for you? haha.
Here's a pretty typical outfit of mine, all thrifted. :] And a nice little bit of lighter, orangey, ends. Last week was pretty great. With Halloween, my birthday and a record amount of knitting being done... I can hardly complain. :] My hair has been getting lots of completments recently- mainly the length... it's gotten to that ridiculously long length where it's nearly impossible to do anything with it and keep it untangled. But I love it. Kimxo
Found this old top (the frilly one) in the closet and thought I'd try and layer it up so I could wear it this autumn. It's such a good colour. Nice and peachy. You know how I said I have a thing about low-cut tops. Well, this is one way that I overcome that- wearing a nice scarf. Perfect for the chilly English weather.Also- I wore my hari in milk maid braids. I felt pretty girly. But it's nice to feel feminine sometimes.Love, Kimxo
